About a week ago, I realized that I was mentioned in an interview with Mark Bould on Big Echo (a critical SF site). A lot of the interview was focused on politics, but it was nice to be named as one of the exponents of the current wave of Latin American SF – nice that someone noticed, LOL.
The March 2018 edition of The Fifth Dimension, which includes my story “Spinning Candle” has been published. I’ll leave a link in the first comment – also cool is that this one has a story by friend and excellent author Robert N Stephenson!
Here’s the list of finalists for the 2018 Jim Baen Memorial Short Story Award – some great names, and I’m truly excited to be among them:
Stewart C Baker
C Stuart Hardwick
Julie N. Novakova
Martin L. Shoemaker
Though I’m still very excited about yesterday’s news, life goes on. Fortunately, there’s more good stuff today: the Autumn’s Harvest anthology has been released. This one includes my story entitled “Teeth”. Nice cover, too!
I’ve known for a few days that I’m one of the ten finalists for the 2018 Jim Baen Memorial Award, but had been asked to keep quiet about it until today.
But now it can be told and I’m delighted to announce that… well, what I said above! The three winners will be posted at some point in March.
As you can imagine, I’m beyond excited, having grown up reading Baen science fiction as a kid.
Anyhow, the best of luck to the other nine finalists (at least one of whom is a friend, maybe more; I haven’t seen the complete list yet).
The nice news I got last week was that the first story I wrote in 2018, after finishing the novel, has been accepted by the editor that requested it (it’s going to a truly interesting antho project). I’ll give more details once contracts are signed and final edits done, but I’m delighted!
First review of Alien Dimensions #9 is (up on Canonnball Read) which includes my story “Wandering Woods”. Seeing that it was my first attempt to write a sentient forest, getting a verdict of “intriguing” works for me.
My story “Summerland” has sold to the fourth volume of the Worlds of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror antho series. This makes me extremely happy because I now have a story in each volume! Here’s a link to Volume 3 while we wait for V4 to arrive late this year!
The complete results of this year’s N3F contest have been announced – as I mentioned earlier, my story “Qalnoth’s Favor” placed second which is a two-place improvement on last year, in which I was the Honorable Mention.
First: Philip A. Kramer Quantum Quietus
Second: Gustavo Bondoni Qualnoth’s Favor
Third: Robert W. Jennings Trash Smashers
Honorable Mention: Graham J. Darling Immaterial Witness
An interview with me just went up on Jessica A. Scott’s website. Go on and have a look. This is because the Book Club she organizes has chosen Siege as their novel for this month. Excited on both counts!
